🌹 New Subrosa Rounds: "Sidewalk Ballets", "First & Last"
Dear Writer,
Have you been enjoying the processes of Spring lately, wherever you are, and also the process of whatever creative acts you’ve been taking?
We’ve been developing some new approaches and offerings to “Subrosa” – our tailored matchmaking service for individual writers in need of partners for a Switch-Lit collaborative story or poem.
Today, we’re excited to open two (2) new Subrosa rounds (and more coming soon), which we hope will inspire you to connect with someone new in the world towards the completion of an original Switch-Lit story.
Round rules:
3 chapters per writer • 100 word limit per chapter • 5 days per turn
(Estimated completion time: 5-6 weeks)Round inspiration:
What are the casual yet dramatic encounters between neighbors that can play out in the public theater of a city sidewalk? In each chapter, writers craft their own colorful vignettes of such encounters that may twist, turn, pirouette, or glide into one another throughout a single neighborhood block or shared protagonist.Inspired by the "sidewalk ballets" first envisioned by American-Canadian writer-sociologist Jane Jacobs, this Subrosa round brings to imaginative life Jacobs' first fundamental of successful city life: "People must take a modicum of public responsibility for each other even if they have no ties to each other."
Let collaborative stories re-inspire the sidewalk culture of local cities by first sparking the collective imagination of its writer-dancers.

Round rules:
1 chapter per writer • 500 word limit per chapter • 7 days per turn
(Estimated completion time: 2-3 weeks)Round inspiration:
In this simple two-chapter Switch-Lit story, one writer presents the emotional "first" of any experience for a given character, while the other presents the "last time" the character, knowingly or not, will ever have that experience again.A first and last love, bike ride, ice cream cone, visit to the ocean, and infinitely more. What has changed between any first and last personal human experience?
Each collaborative story is a poignant human portrait about first times, last times, and the unwritten lifetime in between left for readers' imaginations to fill.

Lastly, to the many new Switch-Lit writers around the world who have recently found us through this recent issue of Dense Discovery, I personally welcome you to our remote corner of the Internet as we evolve social media through the connective power of collaborative prose and poetry.
Keep enjoying the process,

Don’t give up.
“Cities are not like suburbs, only denser. They differ from towns and suburbs in basic ways, and one of these is that cities are, by definition, full of strangers.”
– Jane Jacobs
