Every month, Switch-Lit releases new story prompts to help launch your next collaborative fiction journey. You can find them on the Switch-Lit “Prompts” page, or revisit our full archive of prompts here on Substack.
This month’s theme: Neighborhoods
“Our neighborhood – this solar system, the cosmos, actually – is so much more vast and amazing than the paltry headlines, insanity, and politics crammed at us daily as so-called news. The beauty of the hood and discoveries that await us are deserving of our attention and mandatory to our survival as a species.”
– Vanna Bonta, writer and inventor
The cosmic connection that we are looking for is closer than we think. In fact, if our human f-a-c-u-l-t-i-e-s are intact (i.e. our five senses plus one of humor, which is useful in a pinch, then it may be where we live and amongst those different from us.
Inspired by a reconnection with and renewed attention to your own real neighborhoods, what kind of neighborhood might you viscerally imagine and invent with another writer this month? What beauty and discoveries will you find there?
